As Self-Care Providers, we believe that “The Best Health-Care is Self-Care!”
Over this 5-Part Blog Series, we are going to deep dive into Self-Care – what it is and why it’s important, but also the types of Self-care, barriers to Self-Care (it feels selfish, anyone?), how to make time for Self-Care, and more. So what is self-care, anyway? You’ve definitely heard the term before and perhaps images of bubble baths and exotic vacations permeate your brain when you hear it tossed around. But Self-Care is so much more than that.
Self-care is anything that helps us work towards being healthy, happy, nourished and fulfilled human beings. Self-care is necessary, as it helps you maintain a healthy relationship with the most important person: yourself. Self-Care is about making your mental, physical and emotional health a priority. As Self-Care Providers we have literally created a practice that revolves around teaching and sharing the value of Self-Care. But in order to understand why that matters, you’ll need to know why Self-Care is important.
Self-Care is IMPORTANT.
Self-Care is one of the strongest tools in your toolkit when it comes to coping with life and your daily emotions in a healthy and productive way. Self-Care is a stress reliever, a mood booster, and a way to keep you motivated. Self-Care paves the way for better physical health, more self-confidence, and it allows you to better serve others when you yourself are fulfilled.
Self-Care can improve your self-esteem – because when you’re taking care of yourself and showing yourself just how important your own well-being is, well, you believe it!
A good Self-Care practice can energize you and can help you make time for the things that really matter. Self-Care can even increase your productivity and ease the risk of burnout. If you’re running yourself ragged, chances are your productivity is suffering. And while it might seem counter-intuitive to step away from the work in order to get it done, that’s exactly what I’m proposing! Taking time for yourself in the midst of a busy day or week can actually help you to see things more clearly, ramp up your creativity and render you more productive when you get back to it.
When it comes down to it, a daily Self-Care practice is essential to remind yourself that your needs are important, too. To take time for your own self-renewal is an important reminder that it is necessary to love yourself. Clear the clutter and distractions from your days and take the time to do whatever re-energizes you and supports the health of your body, mind, and emotions.
