Who Is Tamara White…?
What comes to mind when you think of the word healer? Perhaps an image of a doctor or a nurse pops into your head. Maybe you think of a chiropractor or an acupuncturist as being a healer. Or maybe a more spiritual image is conjured up in your mind, like a shaman. Hi, I’m Tamara White, a healer in the most intrinsic sense of the word.
I am an Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner, a Yoga Instructor, a Thai Yoga Massage Therapist, and a certified Healing Touch Practitioner. Healing is not only my profession but also my art form and my chosen direction in life. I look at the art of healing from all angles, from the physical to the emotional to the spiritual and everything in between.
Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner
On the physical side of things, I am a Board Certified Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner (CNP/ANCC) in practice at Sound Physicians in Cincinnati, Ohio. I am a current member of the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association (GAPNA) as well as past Chapter President. I received my Master’s of Science (MSN) in Nurse Practitioner from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY; a BS in Nursing, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Cincinnati; and a diploma in Nursing from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati. I enjoy teaching my patients and their families what they can do to optimize their health.
Therapeutic Healing
On the therapeutic side of healing, I am a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 500). I began my own journey with yoga in 2003 when searching for optimal recovery methods after years as a marathon runner. I quickly discovered and fell in love with the many benefits of yoga for healing and overall health. Yoga teaches you how to relax and release tension, and it helps to strengthen weak muscles as well as stretch tight ones. It also works to balance the mind, body and spirit, in order to encourage energy flow and encourage the body’s own natural healing process to jump into action. It is a form of osteopathic medicine, which involves stretching, massaging, and moving the musculoskeletal system. I teach yoga at locations throughout Cincinnati, including at True Freedom Recovery Yoga, Worthy Yoga, and I even bring Chair Yoga to Senior Centers throughout the Greater Cincinnati area, as well as providing private yoga sessions to clients in their homes. Transitioning from the physical to combine with the spiritual aspect of healing, my most recent Yoga Teacher training at True Freedom Recovery Yoga, which completed my 500 hours, focused on Ayurveda and yoga for trauma and recovery- a subset of yoga which attempts to integrate mind, brain, body, and social connections to understand and treat past trauma.
I am also a Thai Yoga Massage Therapist, which is a traditional healing system combining acupressure, Indian Ayurvedic principles, assisted yoga postures, and breathing and meditation to bring the body into a state of deep relaxation.
I believe in a whole-body approach to healing, and that health and wellness depend on a balance between mind body and spirit. My main goal through all of these healing modalities is to promote and maintain good health as opposed to fighting disease.
